Chess meetups
Many associations took their well-deserved break during the summer. Noesis was not one of those! Throughout the summer, many members of the club came together to play chess, have some drinks and enjoy the weather. Whenever I joined, I saw new people every time, having a good time and getting to know each other. We hope to continue this vibe every week of the new year 🙂Â
Workshops
And that is not all. Apart from the meetups, Noesis also gave people the chance to learn about chess, or improve their skills. Our members Joost van Engelen and Jord Ypma arranged two workshops for the Summer University, in which they taught chess to beginning players.Â
For the players of our club, there was a more advanced workshop organized by yours truly. Players sent in their games, and we got a lot of useful tips out of these games for everyone. Hopefully we can do more like this in the upcoming year!

Behind the scenes
Apart from all the fun with meetups and workshops, a lot of things have been going on behind the scenes at Noesis. It turns out that starting a chess club takes a lot of effort. Together with active members, the board tackled problems such as creating bylaws, gathering chess sets, creating a logo, building a website, starting up committees, and preparing for the introduction week. If everything goes according to plan, we will be a fully functioning chess club by the start of the new school year.
